Yeti Crab [Kiwa hirsuta] Beanie
Colloquially known as the Yeti Crab, this deep sea squat lobster is fluffy for good reason - it's hairy limbs are a garden for the chemosynthetic bacteria it subsists on.
When designing this beanie, I wanted to incorporate fun textural elements. While the actual crab is probably more prickly than soft, I used some left over fluffy fabric as an applique for the limbs to make this yeti crab visually interesting and fun to pet.
The base beanie is made of 100% acrylic and can be machine washed in cold water and dried on low heat. The Yeti Crab is made from Polyester felt, some scrap fabric from a fluffy blanket, and 100% Polyester Floriani thread.
The beanies pictured are samples, your beanie may vary slightly as I make them all myself, but I will do my best to match them.
The Yeti Crab pattern is a NonCompliant Cyborg Original by JA Fields, based on a reference image from Michel Segonzac, Institut Français de Recherche pour l’Exploitation de la Mer, © ifremer/A. Fifis under a CC BY 4.0 license.
