Beroe abyssicola beanie
This Beroe abyssicola design is based on a photo of the first one I ever saw back in 2016 on a sunny day in Friday Harbor, WA. I wanted to capture that deep pink stomach and their intricate little diverticulations. I created the effect through multiple layers of applique and a stippling fill in a metallic thread.
The design is ~2" tall by ~3.5" wide.
The base beanie is made of 100% acrylic and can be machine washed on a delicate cycle in cold water and dried on low heat. The embroidered design is made with Floriani Polyester embroidery thread and metallic King Star thread. The appliquéd design is a combination of felt, cotton, and organza.
While the beanie around the design may appear warped in photos, this is intentional as the beanie was stretched in the embroidery hoop so that it would lay nicely when worn. The beanies pictured are samples, your beanie may vary slightly as I make them all myself, but I will do my best to match them.
The Beroe abyssicola design is a NonCompliant Cyborg original pattern by JA Fields.
Image 1 ID: Image of the full beanie. It is black and the ctenophore is embroidered on the folded over brim. The Beroe has deep pink ctene rows and a deep pink floral stomach. There is a lot of visual texture from the print and the stitching.
Image 2 ID: Zoom in of just the ctenophore, giving a better view of the effect of the applique and stippling.
Image 3 ID: Further zoom in to the stitching showing the metallic stippling stitch and comb rows.
