Yeti Crab [Kiwa hirsuta] Bandana
Colloquially known as the Yeti Crab, this deep sea squat lobster is fluffy for good reason - it's hairy limbs are a garden for the chemosynthetic bacteria it subsists on.
When I designed this piece, I wanted to incorporate fun textural elements. While the actual crab is probably more prickly than soft, I used some left over fluffy fabric as an applique for the limbs to make this yeti crab visually interesting and fun to pet.
The base bandana is an approximately 19" square of black cotton fabric and the embroidery is 100% Polyester Floriani embroidery thread. The embroidered design is approximately 5" x 3".
The Yeti Crab pattern is a NonCompliant Cyborg Original by JA Fields, based on a reference image from Michel Segonzac, Institut Français de Recherche pour l’Exploitation de la Mer, © ifremer/A. Fifis under a CC BY 4.0 license.
