Sea Star Larvae Patch
Sea Star Larvae [Pisaster ochraceus brachiolaria]
~4.5" x 3", felt embroidered patch with iron on backing
"I'm a star!"
Out in the ocean, these sea star larvae are only about 1-2mm long, but with this patch you don't need a microscope to see how gorgeous they are!
This patch was based on the local keystone species, Pisaster ochraceus, at its brachiolaria larval stage. I used a series of appliqué and embroidery to provide 3D shape to emulate the real life larvae, and bright shiny gold thread to capture their color.
I raised these larvae in the summer of 2022, and based this piece off of microscopy photos and drawings I took while watching them grow up.
Send me a message if you'd like to request any kind of customization. If I don't have the version you'd like in stock, I'm happy to make one!
