Rainbow Eye | Chaotic Happy x NonCompliant Cyborg
~3" round embroidered felt patch with iron on backing
This piece was created in collaboration with Chaotic Happy (@Chaotic_Happy) on IG and will be the first in a series of collab patches.
I'm drawn to Chaotic Happy's work because to me it has a sense of brevity without minimalism. Their embrace of bold color & chaos carried out in each piece through a focused collection of shapes created through repetition is both meditative and poetic.
Their designs also lend themselves incredibly well to creative embroidery. Finding ways to recreate the feel of a sketch was really fun, and I look forward to sharing the ways we have been incorporating texture and pattern into upcoming pieces.
Image Descriptions:
Image 1 - A hand-cut circular blue felt patch with rainbow squiggly beams coming from an eye. The eye is viewed from the side and has long eye lashes and a silver iris. The patch has a metallic silver outline but a raw felt edge. It is perched above a pile of the same patches. Text reads " Chaotic Happy X NonCompliant Cyborg"
Image 2 - A 2 by 2 checkerboard grid which says The Inspo next to a sketch of an eye with rainbow beams above the felt embroidered patch from the last image next to the words "The Patch"
Image 3 - The patch on its own to show the stitching. This shows the edge is generally round but hand-cut and that the embroidered shapes are filled with contour runs and textures.
